The Media Manager on some Macs is experiencing trouble with one format of book. This is a known issue at OneClick and they are working on it, but we do not know when this may be resolved. See this help note if this is happening to you.
To use OneClickdigital, you must (a) register for an account, (b) install the Media Manager software, (c) update your iTunes settings if you intend to transfer the books to an iPod.
A. Register for an account
Go to Library eCard Login above and sign in with your Kansas Library Card.
Choose the OneClickdigital registration link from the Digital Books eLending section.
You will be taken to the Create an Account screen. Fill out the form, some notes:
Username: is permanent! Pick something easy to type and remember, do not use spaces.
Password: minimum of 7 characters, use letters and numbers.
Zip code: please provide a 5-digit zip for statistical purposes.
Click the Create Account button once, and wait until "Welcome [Your Name]" appears in the upper right corner of the webpage.
B. Install the Media Manager software:
Open your Mac's App Store.
Search for and install the OneClickdigital Media Manager. When complete, open the software (if you will use this often, you may wish to add Media Manager to your dock).
Choose your region as North America when prompted.
Enter the username & password you created during registration.
you may choose to have the software save your login information.
the software should associate you with the State Library of Kansas. For many people this will be automatic. If a drop-down appears asking you to select a library location, pick State Library of Kansas.
upon login, the software's checked out books area will be blank unless you have already checked out a book.
C. Update iTunes Setting for iPod (skip if you will not transfer to an iPod)
With iTunes open, plug in your device.
Click on your device's name (usually in upper right side of iTunes).
Device Summary will appear. Scroll down to Options.
Make sure manually manage music and videos is turned on (box checkmarked).
Check Out a Book
In Media Manager, click the Browse Website link. This will open the OneClick website, where all checkouts are holds are placed.
Search or browse for a book. Our favorite way:
Go to Browse, and click on either "All eAudio Titles" or "Genre" (and pick a subject) to start.
When the search pulls up, click on "Refine Search" (white bar at left)
In the refine bar, find "Availability" and check "Available." If your Mac is one experiencing the error, also click on "Digital Rights" and make this "Not Protected."
The search will refresh, and how every book with available copies. You can start looking through books now, or set more options like:
choose a genre in the "refine" box, if you did not start your search this way.
click on "Sort by" and switch it to "Date Added." This puts the newest purchased books in your search first.
click on the "list view" (small lined button at upper right of book covers). This puts part of the summary next to the book cover, so you don't have to click into each one.
When you have found a book, click the cover. The book's details are shown.
Use the Checkout Now button (if all copies are in use, the button is Hold). If your browser asks to download a file, click cancel.
Return to the Media Manager software. If your new checkout does not show yet, click the refresh button (small rectangular button with two arrows in it).
Use a Book
Listen on the computer:
click the Play Title button for the book. The book will begin downloading to the computer, and start playing after a couple of chapters are downloaded.
pause, skip, or stop the book using the playback controls above the checked out list. The software will save your place in the book automatically.
Transfer to an iPod:
connect your device to the computer.
click the Download/Transfer button for the book.
wait until you receive a message that the download is complete before disconnecting your device.
On device: audiobooks will transfer as a playlist. Go into Music->Playlists to find them.
Early Return and Renew - there are controls buttons for each checked out book in Media Manager. If another person is waiting on a book, you will not be able to renew it (button will not be clickable).
Holds - on the website, click into My Titles (from either Browse or by clicking your name on the right). You can view your current holds, see what place you are in line (and how many copies the library owns) and remove any you no longer want.
Need to update your account? When logged in, choose My Account (also under Browse or your name). You can update your email, change your password, and now even choose a different username.
