Kansas Reads to Preschoolers

State Groovy Joe Ice Cream and DinosaursLibrarian Eric Norris, along with the Kansas Reads to Preschoolers committee, is pleased to announce that the 2020 title is Groovy Joe: Ice Cream & Dinosaurs, by Eric Litwin. This picture book story will appeal to young readers, with a focus on the 2-5 years old age group.

Because we are unsure what story times will look like in November due to Covid-19, one of the factors for choosing this year’s Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Month title is that it is available digitally on Bookflix, which all Kansas residents can access for free through the State Library’s website.

Groovy Joe is available in several formats, including hardcover, paperback, and Kindle editions (available through Amazon and other vendors). The title is also available in a bilingual edition. Pricing and ordering information will be sent via email at a later date.

Thanks to the following 2020 committee members for all their hard work:

  • Anne Harris, Wichita Public Library
  • Donna Knoell, Educational Consultant
  • Janet Reynolds, La Cygne Library
  • Kathy Ellison, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library
  • Kelsey Trower, Child Care Aware of Kansas

Libraries may have events throughout the month!

Kansas Reads to Preschoolers is an annual event that promotes reading to all Kansas children from birth through age five. Through the statewide program, parents, librarians and caregivers are encouraged to read the chosen title during a selected week and month.
