Library Card Number: your Kansas Library eCard number.
PIN/Password: in MMDDYYYY format. Example: If your birthdate is April 15, 1980, you would input 04151980.
Search or browse for a book to check out. Tips:
Keyword search works well to start a general browse with keywords like mystery or if you like vampires.
After you search, there will be a bar at left showing similar subjects and other ways to limit a search.
When you have found a book that you want, click the "Checkout" button. You will receive a confirmation message and be taken to the My Account screen.
Click the "Download" button for the book.
Your browser will want to know what to do with the file - choose "Open" (Chrome users - A file with "acsm" will show at the bottom of your window, click this to do the open function).
Adobe Digital Editions will open, and you will see it importing the book. When it is finished, you may begin using the book.
Read a Book in the Software:
Open a book: Double-click the book cover in the Library section.
Turn a page: You can use any of these actions:
Roll scroll wheel on the mouse
"Down" arrow on keyboard
"Page down" on keyboard
Arrow buttons at the bottom of the reading window.
Close a book: Choose "Library" in the upper left side to return to the list of books. If you have not finished the book, it will have automatically set a bookmark.
Change Reading Settings:
Text size options - The double-A button in the black bar (top right).
Toggle Full Screen - Button that looks like a computer monitor (further to right than text size). Makes the reading pane fill your entire screen.
Transfer a Book to an eReader:
Plug your device into the computer.
Your device's name will appear in the left side bar, above the software's bookshelves listing.
If this is the first time your device has been used with library eBooks, click once on the name of the device.
Click the small gear icon to the upper right of the device name, and choose "authorize device." If this is unclickable, then the software did this automatically when it recognized the device.
Click and hold down on the book you want to transfer.
Drag the book to the name of your device in the left side bar. Release the book when you see a green plus sign appear.
A brief "Copying" message will flash on the screen, and your book has been added to the device. You can now safely eject your device.
If you are using a Nook and can't seem to find the book(s) you transferred:
Press the n button at the bottom of the Nook.
Tap the Library icon.
Tap the "my stuff" icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Tap "My Files."
Tap the folder titled "Digital Editions."
Tap the file with the same name as the that you transferred. After locating and opening it this first time, it should appear on your Home screen in the future.
Transfer Book to a Sony eReader (older models)
Unfortunately, the Adobe Digital Editions software does not recognize older Sony eReaders. If you attempt to transfer an eBook to an older Sony eReader and the Adobe Digital Editions software fails to recognized your device, it may be necessary to follow these instructions.
