Total Boox for iPad / iPhone

App works for devices with iOS 7 & newer.

Getting Started - Install App & Login

  1. Open the App Store on your device.
  2. Search for and install the Total Boox for Libraries app.
  3. Open the app for first use - It will want you to login.  Fill out as follows:
    • Select Library = State Library of Kansas
    • Library Card Number = Kansas Library eCard number
    • PIN/Password = Your birthdate in MMDDYYYY format.  Example: If your birthday is Jan 29, 1980, your should enter 01291980.
  4. The app will connect. The app will save your information and you will not have to log in every time.

Check Out & Download a Book

  1. Tap the "Get Books" button in the upper left of the app (in the brown border).  Notes on the areas of the site:
    • Main page shows Editor's Picks, Featured Author, New Arrivals, and Categories.
    • Categories is subject browse. Note that if you tap a large category like Fiction you have the opportunity to narrow down to Mystery, Science Fiction, Western, etc.
    • Shelves - these are pre-made collections of books, most from the Total Boox staff. Expect them to evolve a lot over time! You can select particular books from a shelf, or choose to download the entire shelf at once.  If the shelf creator adds books after you checkout the shelf, these books will automatically appear in your copy of their shelf!
    • Search - this is a simple search, we recommend trying an author last name, part of a title, or a keyword.
  2. When you've selected a book, tap the "Add" button for the book.  It will turn gray and now say "Remove".
  3. When you've finished checking out books, tap the "Back" button in the upper left corner.
  4.  Your new checkouts should appear in the top row (Recent) of your app's main page, if they do not pull down (swipe finger down page) to refresh your app.  You may see a thin blue line running across the bottom of each book as they download to your device, but as eBook files are usually small this is very quick.

Reading a Book

  • Open a book: tap the cover of the book from your app's Library and select "Read."
  • Turn a page: tap the right margin to go forward, tap the left margin to back up.
  • Close a book: tap the center of the book page.  This pulls up a menu, tap the sofa/couch button.
  • Change text size: tap the center of the book page and choose the A button.

What Else?

  • No limits reading.  Checkouts do not expire and currently there is no limit on how many you can check out at a time.  This service charges the State Library based on how much of each book you read, so if you check out a book but do not read it there is no charge to the library.  If you read the entire book, we pay for the entire checkout.  We are not charged if you re-read a book later.
  • Shelves Feature - Organize your checkouts. Note: a shelf will be automatically created in your app if you choose to checkout all titles in a pre-made shelf.
    • Tap the "New Shelf" at the bottom of your app.
    • Name the shelf, select a tab color (optional) and tap "Create Shelf."
    • Adding books to the shelf can be done two ways:
      • Hold down on the cover art of the book and drag it down to the new shelf.
      • Tap on the cover art of the book, choose "Copy" then the name of the shelf.
    • Edit or delete an entire shelf later: tap the 4-lines button in the top right of the app.
  • Deleting a book (optional) - tap on the book's cover art, then select "Delete."
