Wait! Before you step on that bug!!!... let's see what sort of bug it is. How about checking the 1943 gem, "Common Insects of Kansas."
Published by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture this book covers everything from the common housefly to the Mexican bean beetle. The book includes black and white illustrations of many different insects as well as color graphics of grasshoppers, the chinch bug, moths, butterflies, beetles and bees. Each section is authored by an expert in the field and the book contains almost 300 pages of "a list and brief description of Kansas insects." For those of us who have little knowledge of insects there is a glossary and index at the end of the book.
