The State Library of Kansas is pleased to announce the issuance of two volumes of a history of the State Library of Kansas, 1855-1914. The volumes, authored by Donna Casement, State Library staff member, are a clippings collection covering the history of the State Library of Kansas, the Kansas Traveling Library Commission, and other Kansas libraries, library organizations and library employees/supporters from 1855 to 1914. Arranged chronologically, the volumes also includes articles and year-by-year insets with information on the Kansas State Capitol, Kansas government issues of the times, and other historical events occurring outside the Kansas library community. These volumes are the product of in-depth research providing a look at the development of not only the State Library, but library service in general through 60 years in Kansas. Many thanks go to the Kansas Historical Society for sharing some photos within the volumes from kansasmemory.org.

You can view these books online at the State Library of Kansas' KGI Online Library here.  Each online volume is divided into 5 parts for ease of viewing.
