Kansas Highways – the newsletter of the Kansas Highway Commission (1917-20, 1925-26)

Explore the world of Kansas roadways when cars (and the roads they traveled on) were young.  The newsletter of the Kansas Highway Commission is filled with pictures and articles relating to motor transportation in Kansas from a time when the state embarked on its first major efforts to build a modern, automotive transportation network .

This highly visual newsletter contains images of construction projects and machinery, as well as maps of construction sites from the time period.

The articles help tell the story of how Kansas roads were built, how life was changing as cars and machinery were becoming common, and how some things are still very familiar today .  Article titles include:

Motor Trucks on Farms a Good Investment

Road Building Machinery to Replace Man Power

Good Roads Will Reduce Your Gas Bill

Roads in Snow Time

This publication will be of interest to both the general public and to researchers.
