After experiencing a broken engagement, psychology professor Laurel MacDonald accepts a position at Duke University to make a fresh start. Soon she's obsessed with the recently opened files of the Rhine parapsychology lab. Along with professor, she uncovers fragmented reports of a supposedly haunted house experiment in 1965. They decide to replicate the experiment, hire two students to help, and move in to the haunted house.
I found the descriptions of ESP trials in the 60s pretty interesting, and Sokoloff keeps a fairly creepy tone going through the book. If you are a chicken like me, don't read it before bed.
