Department of Transportation Legislative Testimony

Posted on September 6, 2016 at 11:36 AM by Bill Sowers

During each session of the Kansas Legislature Kansas state agencies are called upon to appear before legislative committees to give testimony on their budgets and laws concerning their operations, duties and organizational structure. Testimony is also given on laws that may affect the social, economic, occupational, environmental, educational, health, transportation or cost of living condition of some or all Kansans.

During testimony an agency head or representative gives an oral and/or written presentation on an issue or condition giving the agency's views on the topic at hand.  Statistics or other information may be presented to aid legislators in deciding the outcome of funding or proposed laws that may affect us all.

The State Library of Kansas' Kansas Government Information (KGI) Online Library has collections of some agency testimonies stretching back ten to 15 years.  A good example is the Testimony collection of the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT).  Within this collection you will find presentations on ethyl acohol, weights and measures, DUI, road construction projects, seat belts, child safety, biodiesel, gasohol, agency overviews, highway advertising (billboards, etc.), eminent domain, etc.

We invite you to take a look at the Kansas Department of Transportation testimonies within the KGI Online Library or on the KDOT website.  Our collection mirrors the collection held by KDOT with documents from 2001 to 2015.  One difference is that we catalog our collection providing access via various local, statewide and worldwide catalogs.  We are still working on adding the 2015 testimonies so that year is incomplete.  The collection offers a good look at issues of interest to researchers.  It is arranged by year:

FEATURED AGENCY COLLECTION

We feature here a different agency or division of a large agency and its publications within the Kansas Government Information (KGI) Online Library:

On July 1, The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services became the Department for Children and Families (DCF). This transition marked the beginning of a new agency more centrally focused on the wellbeing of children and families in Kansas. The Disability and Behavioral Health Services division of SRS, as well as oversight of the five state hospitals moved to the newly named Department for Aging and Disability Services.

DCF retained its children and adult protection services, adoption services, foster care support, child support services, welfare and food assistance programs, as well as services dedicated to vocational rehabilitation, among others.

DCF Mission: To protect children, promote healthy families and encourage personal responsibility.
