Every year since (at least) 2014, the State Library has partnered with the Kansas State Department of Education's Child Nutrition and Wellness
program to bring libraries an opportunity to be a part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
Kelly Chanay, Assistant Director of CNW, is a tireless advocate for this essential program. She explains the various components clearly and simply, and with infectious enthusiasm.
Perhaps even more important, she fully understands the challenges a library faces when considering involvement at what is already (for public libraries) a busy and hectic time. If you'd like to be involved, whether as a volunteer where SfSP is already in place, or dream of going all out as a meal site and sponsor, she can answer questions, advise and guide you, and make you successful from start to finish.
Whether your concern is over resources, space, commitment, the niceties of partnership and politics, or anything else, help will be available.
Please join Kelly for a short introductory webinar at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23. The State Library will host via Zoom, so you can always find the link on our calendar
This year, we are asking Kelly to focus particularly on the wide range of options available to libraries interested in contributing, and on concerns that have kept libraries from doing so in the past.
Since so many successful programs across the state are partnerships that match sponsors and sites with the resources they have to offer, Kelly has helped us put together a flyer
showing that no one organization need take on the entire task.
Please consider sharing it with potential partners in your community. Because it is a unique venture, participation in this webinar is not limited to library sponsors, current or potential.
This is a great program with many potential benefits for your community - and for the library with imagination and creativity to find the perfect way to fit in. Maybe 2017 is your year to be that library!
