While many of us are familiar with Winston Churchill as the prime minister of England during World War II, his youth is discussed less frequently. Churchill was a journalist covering the Boer War in 1899, when the military unit he was embedded with was captured. Two weeks into captivity, Churchill escaped and traveled hundreds of miles alone to safety. That's incredible enough, but Churchill then enlisted and returned to South Africa, ultimately helping free the soldiers he was imprisoned with.
