Financial Literacy Information for Kansans

Posted on April 8, 2019 at 11:30 AM by Sarah Tenfelde-Dubois

It is that time of year again when we take a look at financial information. Financial Literacy is recognized nationally in the month of April, each year. Financial Literacy Month is a great time to learn to manage personal finances with events and activities, and to highlight the importance of financial literacy.

The State Library of Kansas has put together resources pages that might be helpful for financial literacy education for all individuals, including multiple age ranges and interest levels.

• Financial Literacy for Kansans:  point patrons in the right direction of finding trustworthy resources and to be part of the financial literacy community network.
• Financial Organizations in Kansas: Links to Kansas government financial literacy resources are highlighted on the tab in the Financial Literacy portion of the State Library’s website.
• Resources at the State Library:  These are databases that have information available for residents of Kansas that deal with financial literacy.
• Financial Literacy Curriculum Resources: Resources for teachers and librarians include links to various, programming ideas, and possible future partnerships and grant opportunities.

This year, the State Library has added new titles to the Digital Books and Online Courses page.  For digital books, this page includes links to different titles available through several platforms that can help with personal finance. Our online courses can be found by scrolling down the page, and there are new classes available through both Learning Express and Universal Class. Please let us know if you need help accessing these materials, or consult the Main Digital Books page mentioned at the top.

Also, there are two webinars from the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) that might be of interest to you.  One is the archived Money as You Grow Bookshelf, which goes over the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection’s program, of the same name as the webinar, that includes information for children ages 4-10. The other, Government Resources to Plan your Current and Future Finances will be April 30, 2019, but you can register to attend now.

These links are designed to provide you with information and tips to help you make informed financial decisions.
