[ARCHIVED] Kansas State Publications on Floods and Flood Prevention

The original item was published from May 9, 2019 6:54 AM to May 9, 2019 8:33 AM

There have been jokes going about lately in Kansas about building arks and fishing from your front porch. Humor aside, the constant rains throughout the state have put many on guard against encroaching flood waters and other water damage. Flooding is nothing new for Kansas. Throughout our history we have dealt with both drought and deluge with federal, state and local governments working to control and understand the affects of weather.

The State Library of Kansas' KGI Online Library has a small collection of state publications on floods and flood control in Kansas dating from 1918 to 2011. Our virtual library is dry and comfortable and you can peruse these documents while you listen to the rain on the virtual roof. Enjoy!
