Northwest Kansas Library System Newsletters, 1977-2017

Posted on February 27, 2020 at 9:06 AM by Bill Sowers

For over 50 years the seven Kansas regional library systems have been developing and providing grants and services to libraries and individuals across Kansas.

One of these systems, the Northwest Kansas Library System (NWKLS), headquartered in Norton, serves 19 Public Libraries, 21 School Districts with 36 School Libraries, two Academic Libraries, four Special libraries, one Club Library, and three Book Deposits. Member counties are Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Norton, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas, Trego, and Wallace with contracting libraries in two counties, Rawlins and Graham Counties. [gleaned from 2018 NWKLS Annual Report].

Recently, with the approval of NWKLS director, George Seamon Jr., the State Library of Kansas added its collection of Northwest Kansas Library System newsletters to our KGI Online Library collection. As stated in previous KGI Blog articles these regional library system newsletters are a treasure trove of historical information on the development and activities of library systems, libraries, library folks and library issues in Kansas.

Our NWKLS newsletter collection spans about 40 years from 1977 to 2017. Our holdings are incomplete but still give the reader a good look at library service in the region. We're hoping to fill the holes in the collection with the help of NWKLS down the road.
