What volunteer work do you do for Kansas Talking Books? I record books.
How long have you been volunteering with Kansas Talking Books? I have been recording for approximately 17 years since I retired from teaching.
What do you do when you are not volunteering (work, hobbies, etc.)? I am a volunteer in the Newman Regional Health Auxiliary where I am currently serving my second year as President of the Auxiliary. I also volunteer in the Auxiliary Snack Bar where I am the scheduler for our workers. This keeps me extremely busy.
I also enjoy my exercise class at Emporia Fitness. I play Scrabble and Trivia online which is always challenging. My husband and I love attending theater.
If you could pick one, which of the books you narrated was your favorite? I believe the title was Above. It was quite an intriguing novel. Michael was my editor then, so check with him regarding the title.
What is your favorite book, author, or series? I loved Nancy Pickard’s The Scent Of Rain And Lightning. When I first began volunteering, I recorded the entire 15 book series, The Guardians Of Ga’hoole. Another series I had fun recording was the Ophelia Wylde series written by Max McCoy.
What’s your best literary memory? Each time I walk into Talking Books, I see the people working so diligently. These men and women have become such good friends over the years.
What’s the first book you remember being read to you? I honestly can’t remember.
What do you like best about being a volunteer for Kansas Talking Books? I always loved reading to my students during the 36 years of teaching middle school English. By recording, I continue sharing my love of literature with our listeners.
