EARTHQUAKES IN KANSAS

Earthquakes Kansas Graphic SMALLER

"I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumblin' down
I feel my heart start to tremblin'
Whenever you're around"

People in south central Kansas can definitely relate to this Carole King song. For the past two decades relatively small earthquakes have jangled nerves and buildings.

The State Library of Kansas' KGI Online Library has a small collection of publications on state and local government response to earthquakes in Kansas. One notable document, "Earthquake incident report : event: January 6, 2016," issued by the city of Wichita is a damage report with photos of a more powerful earthquake which struck the Wichita area.

We're sharing the publications in the KGI Online Library here. Below that link you'll also find links to other resources on earthquakes in Kansas provided by the Kansas Geological Survey and the US Geological Survey.

There is a link on the US Geological Survey to this web page on the US Geological Survey website I have listed above but it's broken. So I've added a live link here.
