KANSAS SCHOOL NATURALIST
Virtual Fieldtrip!!!
Today we're jumping onto the KGI Online Library's old, yellow, virtual school bus, leaving the hallowed halls of the KGI Online Library behind, and traveling to another website promoting the Emporia State University Department of Biology's series, "Kansas School Naturalist!" Sorry, you'll have to pay for your own lunch.
One of the best reads I've found published by a Kansas state agency/institution is the "Kansas School Naturalist." Each issue, written by an expert in the field, covers a single topic offering a world of information within 16 pages. Issues include wonderful graphics and some have been translated into Chinese and Spanish.
Currently 46 of the 183 issues of the "Kansas School Naturalist" are available online. You can go to the publication's website and scroll down through a list of available issues, which include thumbnails of the beautiful covers along with links to the articles.
You can also subscribe to "Kansas School Naturalist." Information on how to do that is on the website.
Here is a sampling of issue titles available for online viewing:
Bees in Kansas
Kissing Bugs in the United States
Last Child on the Prairie: A Directory for parents and Teachers for Returning Children to the Outdoors
Meat Processing
Checklist of the Land Snails of Kansas
Screwworm Eradication
Biology of the Monarch Butterfly
Wetlands of Kansas
Checklist of Kansas Ground Spiders
Scorpionflies, Hangingflies, and other Mecoptera
Greater Prairie Chicken Management
Carpenter Ants
