Cloud Library: New Online Reader

Posted to Statewide Online Services News on December 12, 2016 at 3:59 PM by Lianne Flax

Cloud Library now has an Online Reader option, which does not require the installation of software or the download of files. It allows you to checkout & read all inside your internet browser. We have tested it over the last few days and it works well.  See here for notes on using the online reader.

Who is this option for? Anyone using a device or computer that could not use the Cloud Library before, because there was not a compatible option. Examples:
  • Windows phone or Windows RT tablets
  • computers that are too old to use the Cloud Library software, such as Windows XP or Macs older than 10.7.
  • older Chromebooks that have tried the CL app, and while the app installed it was too slow.
Can I use the online reader even if my device has software/app available? Sure, but realize that the online reader currently requires a constant internet connection, when the software/app allows you to be away from an internet connection once your book is downloaded (all reading can be done offline.

Cloud Library: Windows & Mac Update

Posted to Statewide Online Services News on October 12, 2016 at 10:23 AM by Lianne Flax

The Cloud Library software for Windows & Mac has now been updated.

How do I get the update?
1. Open your 3M Cloud Library software on your computer. Let it sit open for a minute or two, and a box will pop open that looks like this.

2. Close your software, and open it again.  You will see a large red "updating" box.  Once this disappears your new version of Cloud Library will be open (it will have saved your login).

What has changed?

 1. Software is now called "Cloud Library" and the icon on your computer looks like this:

2. Facelift for software!  Most functions are the same, there are some updates.

Main changes are:
  • Browse has been reconfigured so there are tabs for Fiction, Nonfiction, Kids, Teens.  You can favorite a particular category or subcategory now so you do not have to drill down each time.
  • Search is bar in the top panel instead of a tab.
  • Filter can be set for "available books" for the whole app now, not just Browse.

Cloud Library: Important App Update

Posted to Statewide Online Services News on September 19, 2016 at 8:26 AM by Lianne Flax

3M Cloud Library becomes “Cloud Library” today, and the app icon changes. Computer users, your software update is still expected the first week of October.

Android & ChromeBooks – sometime today (September 19, could even be late this evening) you should receive an update for the app. Allow the update to process when prompted. If you have set your device to install updates automatically, you will see a complete notification and the app icon will have changed.

iOS (iPad/iPhone) – sometime tomorrow (September 20) you will receive an update for the app. Visit the “update” section/tab of your App Store to install it.

Kindle Fires –after September 19- your device cannot update this app like Android & iOS devices, so you must uninstall the current version and install the new version of the app:
  1. Go to Settings for your device. This will either be a gear icon in the list of all apps, or you will swipe down from the top to find Settings.
  2. Select Applications/Apps. Some may also need to select “Manage Applications.”
  3. You should see a list of installed apps. Find 3M Cloud Library, tap on it, and select “uninstall.” Allow this to process.
  4. Go to Cloud Library’s Kindle Fire App page. You have previously set your device up to use this app type, so skip down to instruction #1 with the red download button.
Need to log back in to the app?
  • Library = State Library of Kansas
  • Library ID = your 6-digit Kansas Library eCard number (Misplaced your number? Fill out this form & we’ll email it to you).
  • PIN / Password = your birthdate in MMDDYYYY format. Leave out the slashes.
