Historic Pratt State Fish Hatchery: Build It and They Will Spawn

The legislative road to having one of the best fish hatcheries in the nation began for Kansas in 1877, when the first Kansas Commissioner of Fisheries encouraged laws “for the protection of the finny tribes occupying the waters of their state.” More than 40 years later, the Wichita Daily Eagle would proclaim, “Kansas Has the Best Fish Hatchery in the World at Pratt.” Read a short history of the Fish Hatchery by Donna Casement at the State Library of Kansas' KGI Online Library Blog.
