Kansas Highway Commission: Kansas Pulls Itself Out of the Mud

"Bad roads and good spirits will never be found together" was a saying in the early twentieth century. In 1915, Kansas had more than 111,000 miles of roads, the second largest mileage after Texas, but less than 100 miles were considered improved roadways.
